Taking care of Daddy

It seems that last night, Daddy got the same stomach bug I had last week.  He felt really lousy all night long, and today he mostly slept.  At one point, Mommy had to go out to the store to get some more medicine, so I knew I had an important job to do.  As soon as she left, I said to Daddy "Daddy, I'll take care of you while Mommy's gone!"  I quickly disappeared, and when I came back a minute later, I had brought him one of my plates and some crackers to make his tummy feel better.  I just wanted to take good care of my Daddy!  He thought it was wonderfully touching, and gave me a super big hug.

Dayton Techfest

Today Mommy and Daddy found out about an event downtown called "TechFest" that is designed for school-age kids interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  How could Daddy and I resist?  I'm close enough to Kindergarten!  Plus, Zoe and Mia were going to be there, so I definitely wanted to go.  After I got ready, Daddy had to laugh as he saw my selection of hairbows.  It's what I wanted!  Mommy and Daddy kept talking about someone called "Princess Leia".  But of course, they still thought I looked adorable!

At TechFest, they had all kinds of interesting and geeky exhibits.  I got to try my hand at controlling the Wright Flyer.  It was tricky!

We made some silly putty using glue and water and some other things.  It was fun, and the best part was it was messy!

One of the exhibits had an infrared camera.  We made lots of silly faces in it and it was neat to see what parts of our bodies were the warmest.

Aaah!  A skeleton!  Daddy sure was being silly.  But then I asked him all about the different bones, and he and Mommy taught me as much as they could.  I thought it was really neat, and when we got home, I even felt and counted Daddy and my ribs!

One room had a bunch of old computers, and I was fasincated with the slide rule!

Daddy showed me this Commodore 64, which was the first computer Papa bought when Daddy was little.  He remembers doing all kinds of programming on it!

There was a big police SUV parked outside.  I don't know why it was there, but the nice policeman asked if I wanted to sit in the driver's seat.  He didn't need to ask me twice!  I jumped right up.  Then he told me to press a button on the control panel to my right.  It really made Mommy and Daddy jump when the siren squawked at them!

I was still recovering from being really sick this past week, so I got worn out quickly and we left before we got to see everything.  But we sure had a great time while we were there!

Valentine's Day!

It's Valentine's Day and I got a package from Grandma and Papa Roslewski!  In it was this great book, "Minnie's Tea Party" along with lots of other fun things.  Thanks Grandma and Papa!

At bedtime, I really wanted to look at the book some more and maybe show it to my friends.  Daddy came in to tuck me in before he went to bed, and look what he found!  I fell asleep reading a book, just like he does!  Mommy likes to laugh at how Daddy falls asleep so quickly when reading a book, so he's especially happy that there are now two of us!

Went to the hospital last night

Yesterday at about 4:00 PM I told Mommy my tummy hurt.  She thought maybe it was because I hadn't eaten much lunch, but when I threw up she knew it was something else.  Daddy and Mommy tried to take care of me, but I threw up two more times in the next few hours, so they took me to the emergency room at about 7:30 PM.  There were a lot of people in the waiting room, so we knew it was going to be a while.  But when I threw up again while we were still waiting, the nurse called me back right away.  I was really weak and pale.  After evaluating me, the doctor wanted to check for a kidney infection, but they needed to rehydrate me first.  But I was so dehydrated they knew I wouldn't possibly be able to drink enough water fast enough, so the only other solution was to give me an IV.  I didn't know what that was, but Daddy told me it was like drinking with your arm!  I thought that sounded kind of fun, and was all set to go until he and the nurse mentioned that there will be a little pinch first.  I know about these "little pinches"!  They mean shots!  Well, that's when I started to not think it was such a fun idea, this drinking through my arm business.  When they started to prep my arm for the IV, that's when I started to cry and scream.  Mommy and Daddy felt so sorry for me!  Daddy held me as close as he could and once the IV needle actually went in I calmed down a lot.  When the saline solution began to flow, I told them it felt good.  It was amazing how fast the color came back into my face.  My lips especially had been pale, but they turned red really quickly.

After the first bag of saline it was time for a urine test, which ended up testing fine.  However, it was so dark and concentrated that the doctor went ahead and gave me another IV bag!  That made 800ml total.  I had been really dehydrated!  I was so tired as it was well past 11:00 PM by this point that I slept through the second bag.  Finally it was time to go home, and we ended up getting home about 12:30.  I actually fell asleep on the way home and Daddy carried me into the house and got me in bed without even waking me up (he thinks)!  Just like when I was little!

Daddy took the day off work to take care of me, and we had a fun time, with me gradually feeling better as the day went on.  I had a follow-up appointment this afternoon, and apparently I just got a stomach bug that's going around.  It sure wasn't very fun!

Vitamin sorting and doggy bank!

Mommy and Daddy take a lot of vitamins and other pills every day, so even though Daddy resisted as much as possible, Mommy got them some pill sorters a few months ago.  When Mommy got a small one for free somewhere, I saw it on the counter and asked if it was for me - because I really wanted to be like them!  Mommy asked what I was going to use it for, and I quickly answered that I needed it for my vitamins.  I may only take one vitamin a day, but I definitely needed that pill sorter!  So now every weekend I dutifully load it up with my vitamins for the coming week.

The other exciting I got is a piggy bank - actually it's a doggy bank!  Daddy and I had been talking about piggy banks a few days ago, and since then I haven't stopped talking about how much I need one to keep my money in.  So tonight we went out to the store and looked at all the different options.  I picked this doggie bank, who I quickly named "Princess" (it has become my most commonly picked name for all kinds of things).

I like keeping my money in it!

Daddy's Birthday

Today is Daddy's birthday, and I've been reminding him about it for days.  When he came and woke me up this morning, I made sure to give him a big "Happy Birthday Daddy".  And I was so excited that I couldn't wait until tonight to give him the birthday card I made.  So I gave it to him at breakfast!  He loved it!

Of course, what was I REALLY excited about?  The cake!  He had picked out a chocolate and peanut butter cake last night that looked really yummy to me.  I had to wait all day and through dinner before we could have some, though.  But once Mommy said we could have cake, I ran right over to the refrigerator and pointed out where it was, in case they forgot!

We made Daddy look the other way for a little while as we got the cake ready.  When we brought him in to see it, he was almost blinded by the amount of candles!  We didn't put 38 candles, but we did make the numbers 3 and 8 out of the ones we had.  It really turned out to be a great cake, too!
